As is traditional at this time of the year we take a look back at Limavady District in 2012.

February was again taken up with private lodge installations and our District Secretary also travelled over to Ballymaquiggan just outside Ballyronan to conduct the installation of officers for LOL 292, Limavady District was also represented at the Coleraine Women’s LOL Service in Ballyrashane Parish Church.

The Massed Band again paraded the town on the 11th Night raising money for a number of charities. The 12th was held in Coleraine under the auspices of Macosquin and Limavady District was given the honour of leading the parade. We also finished of the private lodge church services at Ardinariff/Boveva and also held our own District Service.

August and as we took a break the Apprentice Boys and Black Institution celebrated there respective days in Londonderry and Portrush.

September will be remembered at the month we marked the centenary of the Signing of the Ulster Covenant with a parade in Limavady on Ulster day were we dedicated a new Arch to mark the occasion, we were all up early the next day to go to Belfast for the Big Parade although none of knew how big it was going to be we stood in Sandy Row for over 4 hours before we made our way through the City Centre onto East Belfast and onward to Stormont it will be a day that many of us will never forget, with all this going on we also found time fit in a special dinner for Limavady Junior District LOL No.1 and also hold our first meeting with our project officer from STRIPE/OCN.

October and time again for the annual election of officers and we saw a change at the top of the District with Bro Mark Smyth moving up from DDM to WDM and Bro James McCorkell elected as DDM. We also helped Bro Sam King of Ardinariff LOL 905 celebrate his 100th Birthday and the District Lodge and Grand Lodge presented him with certificates to mark this special occasion.

November and the District Secretary attended the Centenary Dinner for Ballyquin Orange Hall .

December and the second Awards ceremony was held in Ardinariff Orange Hall which was attended by the Grand Master and County Grand Master, sadly we learned of the passing of Bro Samuel King a few months after we had helped his celebrate his 100th Birthday, one of the last items of the business for the year was the Grand Lodge meeting in Doorin Orange Hall in County Donegal at which our District Chaplain Bro Rev Alistair Smyth was relected as Deputy Grand Master.
